When there's no time left for dancing. When the body can't. When there's no space for it.
I can't dance transforms the invisible rituals of care work into choreography. Performers repeat the predominantly female-coded gestures of housework – making beds, cooking, cleaning – until they become dance. The performance asks: What makes dance dance? Who decides what counts as movement worth seeing? These everyday gestures accomplish essential work but are barely registered, don't count as labor. Through rhythm and repetition, they shift from invisible routine into visible choreography. And the pauses reveal what lies beneath these ritualized daily movements: exhaustion or anger? I can't dance is a dance for those who can't dance. A form that questions the rules of dance and what deserves attention – in movement, in work, in bodies.
